URBAN.KI - the German AI Initiative for Municipalities - is working on using artificial intelligence (AI) to solve a wide range of challenges in municipalities, including urban planning and geodata-based infrastructure, mobility planning and management, environmental and climate-sensitive planning, buildings, supply and disposal, desaster mitigation and civil security, and administration and citizen services. Municipalities are developing concrete use cases to become the smart cities of tomorrow. With the municipalities\' expertise and Urban.KI\'s technical implementation skills, prototypes are created and tested to make the benefits of AI swiftly tangible in municipalities.

ABOUT MATTHIAS WOIWODE VON GILARDI
On a mission to design our transformation before it just happens to us - addressing the fundamental system errors preventing us from thriving within the planetary boundaries. Determined to deploy the world’s knowledge that enables us to think and act long-term, to nurture our commons as a collective, and to promoting sustainable practices and leveraging solutions for community empowerment and positive impact at scale. My work focuses on shaping transformation in complex public and innovation systems.Over the course of my career, I have led and developed programmes at the intersection of European and national research cooperation, innovation policy and sustainable urban and regional transformation. I thrive in environments where strategy, policy and implementation meet – building new structures, engaging diverse stakeholders and turning ambitious ideas into operational reality. While maintaining curiosity for the unknown - and determined to solving the unresolved, I enjoy innovative, entrepreneurial, collaborative and international organisations and teams to advance the knowledge, skills and methods needed to deliver on sustainable transformation.
