ABOUT MATTHIAS HELD
Diploma in product design from the HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd. Freelancer for the German development aid organization GEZ as design consultant: projects in Côte d\'Ivoire, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Tunisia. From 1994 postgraduate studies as Fulbright scholar at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY, graduating as Master of Industrial Design (MID). Returned to Germany and founded the design studio quintessence in Stuttgart: product design, interior design, exhibitions and transmedia design, including for Blanco, Badger Meter, Caritas, Daimler, Hymer IDC, Le Creuset and SWR. Entrepreneurial participation in several start-ups in the field of regenerative energy technology. Appointed professor of design fundamentals in the product design program in 2006, Held helped establish the Institute for Applied Research at HfG and conducted research projects in the areas of sustainability, regenerative energy technology, medical technology and tangible interaction. He is currently prorector for research, transfer and internationalization.
