ABOUT MATTHEW WILMSHURST

I am a legal and commercial advisor working principally in the shipping sector. I support my clients with their contracts; commercial projects and business roadblocks; disputes with customers and suppliers; and risk management, across all of the maritime industry. In addition I am known in particular for my deep logistics and international supply chain expertise. I am an energetic, enthusiastic, commercially minded lawyer. I view law as just one of the tools a good advisor should be able to deploy for clients, alongside in-depth sector knowledge, creativity, clarity of communication and understanding the client\'s goals. I love the industry my clients are in, and I love helping them, whether its developing new revenue products, reducing risk in the business through contracting or insurance, or winning disputes. I help clients to mitigate risk through appropriate contracting. I have drafted or advised on charterparties; VSAs; bills of lading (including NVOC); sea freight agreements; agency agreements, contracts for a wide range of logistics services including freight management, LLP, carriage, warehousing, and customs; terminal services agreements; and standard terms and conditions for businesses across the shipping sector. I regularly represent clients in disputes and in English and foreign court proceedings and arbitration, relating to the carriage of goods; charterparties; logistics and supply chain services; insurance cover; terminal allisions; warehousing; sale of goods; contractual default; customer or supplier insolvency. I am robust in representing my clients, and I have a lot of experience in obtaining urgent interim remedies to protect clients\' immediate interests, and using litigation and dispute resolution to reach client agreed intended outcomes.I have been a recommended logistics lawyer in every edition of Chambers & Partners since 2014, and I am a recommended commercial contracts lawyer in Legal 500.
