ABOUT PAMELA MATTHEWS
Pamela Matthews (BSc, MFA), Producer/Director/Editor/Instructor/Actor, teaches Film Studies (Directing and Performance) at Ryerson University, Centennial College and OCAD University. She is Cree from the Sachigo Lake First Nation. Since 2002, Pam has been teaching filmmaking for the American Indian Film Institute, where she has overseen the production of approximately 50 short films. Documentaries include:\"The Guyana Diabetes Project\"(shot in South America),\"Just Another Dead Indian\"(about the wrongful deaths of Aboriginal men in Canada) and “A Shot in the Dark” (about the death of Dudley George). Her dramatic film, “Only the Devil Speaks Cree” has won several awards including the Best Live Short at the AIFF & at the NAFTA Festival in LA. “OTDSC” has also screened in the USA, Norway, Switzerland, Germany, England & Darwin, Australia where it won the Best Foreign Film at the Down Under International Film Festival. She produced Radio documentaries for Ryerson\'s \'The Scope\', including the \"Resonating Reconciliation\" series about Residential schools. In the summer of 2022, Pam was part of a team, as Co-Director/Co-Producer and Film Mentor that produced a documentary film for the Tolowa Tribe in Northern California called \"Rooted in Resiliency\". In November, 2014, Pam produced the inaugural AMERICAN INDIAN MOTION PICTURE AWARDS SHOW for the American Indian Film Festival in San Francisco, which aired on several TV Stations throughout the USA. As an actor, Pam played principal roles in many TV Series, including:\"Dexter: New Blood\",\"Eaux Turulentes\",\"Burden of Truth\",\"Unsettled\",\"The Trickster\",\"Tribal\",\"Hard Rock Medical\" and \"North of 60\"(for which she was nominated for a Gemini Award). She has also had roles in the films \"Night Raiders\",\"Shazam\",\"Through Black Spruce\" and \"Casino Jack\",\"Indian Summer: the Oka Crisis\" and “One Dead Indian” (Best Supporting Actress Nomination at AIFI). Received her MFA in Film Production from York U, is a graduate of the Ryerson Theatre School & studied directing at the Lincoln Center Theatre (NY) & the Royal National Theatre (England). In 2003, she received the Gold Medal for Outstanding Academic Achievement from Ryerson U.(Film Studies). Pam holds a BACHELOR of SCIENCE DEGREE from Mount Allison U.
