About Matthew Smith

I am passionate about investing in renewable energy and clean infrastructure. After nine years working in London, I have moved to Mumbai to support the green transition in the most exciting market in the world. My work experience includes leading investment processes, writing investment proposals, supporting project financing, project development, corporate strategy, market entry, regulatory analysis, investment opportunity sourcing, asset management, valuations, financial modelling, strategy consulting, commercial due diligence, M&A advisory and more. I have a strong sector focus on renewable energy, power, low carbon infrastructure and all things related to energy transition and climate change. Technologies I have worked with include offshore wind, onshore wind, solar PV, grid-scale battery storage, nuclear and gas power plants. Until recently I worked in Mitsubishi Corporation\'s London-based subsidiary responsible for investment in EMEA renewable energy. There I worked across all aspects of making direct investments into development-stage renewable energy projects, as well as supporting divestments of construction-stage or operational assets. I directly supported project companies on subsidy auction bids, EPC contract negotiations and project financing. I also had number of direct secondments into a construction-stage offshore wind farm, reporting directly to the Project Director.Before DGE I worked for six years in KPMG UK’s Strategy Consulting division, specialising in Commercial Due Diligence and M&A advisory for renewable energy and low carbon infrastructure. During this time, I supported on many of the largest deals in the sector.I fell in love with India when I first visited 10 years ago and have visited many times since. I firmly believe in India’s clean growth trajectory and hope to support its journey to become a clean energy superpower. Outside of work I enjoy travel, practising my Hindi, reading Indian history and following the latest climate change news.

   I lead a team of energy modellers designing Serentica\'s PPA product offering and project development strategy. Working within the wider Business Development & Strategy function, we develop investment cases and bidding strategies for government and C&I PPA tenders. We also develop investment cases for the development of new wind, solar & energy storage projects.
