I lead aquatics operations at the Botetourt Family YMCA, overseeing staffing, programming, and safety systems for a multi-program department serving a large and diverse membership base.I’ve spent more than 25 years in swim instruction and competitive coaching, holding certifications as a Swim America Instructor, WSI, Life Time Swim Instructor Facilitator, LGI, and USA Swimming Coach. That experience has shaped how I approach aquatics leadership: strong systems create safer pools, better staff retention, and programs that can grow without burning people out.My primary interest is the operational side of aquatics: staffing structures, program design, risk management, and sustainable systems that allow departments to scale responsibly.I’m currently developing an aquatics operations diagnostic and connecting with peers to exchange ideas, compare systems, and improve how facilities support both staff and swimmers.If you work in aquatics leadership or facility management, I’m always open to conversations about what’s working, what isn’t, and how we move the industry forward.
