About Matthew Luchansky

I am a strategic and passionate leader who can work across functions to address global challenges. I lead teams focused on tech innovation, customer partnerships, and new product commercialization to drive growth. I am familiar with multiple business models and accompanying approaches to research, development, and technical service. As a scientist with experience developing products together with partners, I can act as a bridge to commercial discussions and translate customer needs to required innovations. I am a PhD chemist currently serving as Global Technical Director for Specialty Products, and I have leadership and accountability for the Monroeville, PA site. I have expertise in product development, analytical chemistry, surface science, formulation optimization, optical materials, polymer characterization, and Six Sigma-type statistical analysis. I joined PPG in 2012, and after 6 years in automotive coatings R&D roles at the bench and in management, I transferred from the Coatings Innovation Center to lead technical for Optical Monomers and Coatings at the Monroeville Business and Technical Center in 2018.Across my various roles at PPG, I have managed technology and product development while serving as a PhD recruiter, instructor for PPG’s curriculum on experimental design and statistical analysis, and a member of the PPG Innovation Council. I have authored 12 peer-reviewed publications, and I am an inventor on 14 patent filings (12 granted). I am a focused and results-driven problem solver who is especially passionate about issues that bridge the interface of science and economics. I particularly enjoy my involvement with recruiting diverse, high-performing talent; interacting with customers to understand their challenges; and thinking of new ways to contribute to a culture of innovation and collaboration.
