About Matthew Coley

I’m a software engineering leader with 10 years of experience building distributed systems, data platforms, and applied AI products.At HubSpot, I currently lead development of BrandRecommendations, a distributed system that generates content and technical recommendations from Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) data using event-driven pipelines, clustering, and LLM-based generation. Prior to this, I built the Brand Intelligence platform, which ingests and analyzes large-scale social data (e.g. Reddit) to deliver sentiment, summarization, and brand insights using production LLM pipelines.Previously, I led the Brand Identity and Content Data teams, where I built large-scale data extraction and vectorization pipelines, graph-based data models for GNNs and link prediction, and scaled the content data platform powering hundreds of thousands of websites. Earlier in my career, I helped platformize HubSpot’s CMS and developer ecosystem, contributing to core systems like content search, templating (Jinjava), and developer infrastructure.I’m particularly interested in building systems that sit at the intersection of distributed systems and AI, from data ingestion and processing to generation and recommendation. I enjoy working on problems that require both deep technical design and strong product intuition.Outside of work, I’m passionate about sports and currently training to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
