As the Director of Data Architecture and Engineering, I lead a hybrid team of on-shore and off-shore resources, who own the entire lifecycle of data management, from acquisition of raw layers to delivery of curated data models. Identifying new, efficient technologies for delivery that follow best practices and meet rigorous security standards, my team is the foundational layer of all analytical output. Beginning in 2018, our team successful built from the ground up a new Azure Synapse Data Warehouse to be the exclusive home of all data for the recently acquired Hawaiian Telcom market. After a successful migration from an on-premises SQL server to an IaaS model in Microsoft Azure in 2020, a successful migration of all ETL from SSIS to Azure Data factory was completed. During this time, the development of curated data sets to feed machine learning models to aid in customer acquisition and retention were commissioned and deployed to production in late 2021. The resulting efforts have seen a decrease in voluntary customer attrition by 30 basis points over the course of twelve months. My team works with a variety of technologies include SQL, Microsoft Azure Synapse, Azure Machine Learning, Data Bricks, Python, R, AWS, Oracle and several others. Currently we are executing a five year plan to migrate all data to platform as a service in Azure to gain even more efficiencies in performance.
