ABOUT MATTHEW RHODES

I have always been interested in pharmacotherapy, and have transitioned from pharmacy technician, to biochemist, and then again to organic chemist. I have seen this field from research to patient care, which has given me a detailed perspective which not many people have. I love working as a synthetic organic chemist and having to have extensive knowledge of both organic synthesis and biochemistry. My passion is for organic synthesis. There is nothing greater than learning new reactions and increasing efficiency of my synthetic routes. Making and testing my own compounds is a fantastic process that I feel lucky to participate in.When I’m not working, I love to cook, watch drag competitions, play video games, and travel whenever I can. I’m always up for a little healthy competition. If you challenge me to pop-culture trivia, I will win. I am also obsessed with podcasts and audible, and always looking for good recommendations.Technical Specialties: Synthetic: Rational drug design, synthetic design, late-stage derivatization, designing ‘drug-like’ molecules, broad knowledge/experience of reactions, good laboratory technique, various purification techniquesBiochemical: Protein assays (fluorescence polarization, BCA, etc.), cellular assays (viability, antiproliferation, cellular ATP, cellular respiration, etc.), binding assays (MST, SPR, fluorescence polarization, ITC, etc.), protein purification, bacteria culture maintenance (S. chromofuscus and E. coli)
