Head of architecture, within BBC Design & Engineering, for the Digital Products team. This includes the websites and apps for BBC News, Sport, Weather, Children\'s, Education and Content Discovery services. My role involves leading the drive to create new and revolutionised experiences that serve hundreds of millions of users each month. Working across dozens of teams, I lead the technical vision and strategy that allows the BBC to compete in a hugely competitive market. My role includes: • responsibility for the technology and strategy for many of the BBC’s digital products, working with over 200 engineers and a similar number of product, delivery, design, and editorial colleagues; • working with many of the BBC’s product & engineering teams, including News, Sport, Children’s, iPlayer, analytics, tools and platform teams; • championing, leading, and delivering a wide range of services using multiple technologies, particularly with web and mobile apps, and the backend services that power them; • ensuring BBC Online is designed, built, and operated to handle massive scale (over 100 million users a week), offering a breadth of interactive content (dozens of workflows creating over 200 page types) to audiences in the UK and around the world. • focusing on getting the culture right: empowering teams to deliver their best, efficiently and consistently. Promoting engineering best practice – reliability, security, performance and efficiency – that’s critical to BBC Online being so dependable by tens of millions of users every day; • working with multiple third parties to help them understand and deliver services to the BBC; I\'ve modernised the BBC procurement frameworks to allow effective and best-value collaboration with suppliers of all sizes; • direct management of teams of up to 12 engineers, architects and analysts. And indirectly, leading/inspiring hundreds of engineers across teams/departments; • advocating of adopting the right modern technology choices
