ABOUT MATTHEW CHUO
Hi, I\'m Matthew! As my career history demonstrates, I\'m a highly motivated professional with a passion for nonlinear computational structural mechanics as well as hands-on bridge design. I possess the specialised knowledge necessary to solve complex nonlinear finite element problems as well as to design and achieve the timely completion of projects spanning a broad range of intricate structural systems. I am committed to incorporating elegance in structural design, drawings and algorithms.I\'ve been recognised for a dedication to excellence in bridge engineering with superior expertise in structural design, computational analysis, software development, and forward-thinking strategic planning to maximise the design experience. In addition, I\'m adept in multiple codified provisions for bridge and building design, including Australian Standards, Malaysian Standards, British Standards, Eurocodes, and ASTM.In 2017, I completed an MSc in Structural Engineering at Imperial College London, where I graduated top of the structural engineering MSc cluster and top of the departmental taught postgraduate cohort, for which I was awarded The Patrick J Dowling Prize in Advanced Structural Engineering and the Letitia Chitty Centenary Memorial Prize respectively.A few interesting projects I partook in include:• Mile 5 - Nyabau Interchange Flyover, Bintulu, MY: Played a vital role in leading efforts involving the structural design and construction quality control for the longest flyover in Sarawak (1,234m). Directed the Consultant Site Supervision Team, and responsible for publication/award submissions.• Bridge Over Sejingkat River, Kuching, MY: Served as an indispensable engineer in designing the pylons, transverse scheme, and foundations for a 400m-span cable-stayed bridge. • Bakun, Suai & Niah Flyovers, Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak, MY: Developed detailed structural designs for flyovers, box culverts, and retaining walls for the 77.2km work package 10 phase of the Pan Borneo Highway Upgrade Project.• Marudi Bridge Over Batang Baram River, Miri, MY: A 650m-long balanced cantilever box girder bridge with a main span of 150m. Provided the preliminary design for the longitudinal scheme and detailed design for the transverse scheme.• Bridge Over Saribas River, Northern Coastal Highway Borneo, MY: A 1,550m-long balanced cantilever box girder bridge with main spans of up to 200m. Provided the preliminary design for the longitudinal scheme and foundations.I would love to connect if you\'re looking to network with fellow bridge engineers!
