I\'m Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Arkivum Ltd, which is part of my long track record of helping organisations of all sizes to create novel products and services based on new and emerging software technologies. Sectors include life sciences, higher education, cultural heritage, aerospace, and retail and finance. Currently, I\'m using my expertise in digital preservation, data archiving, research data management, and regulatory compliance to help organisations protect and get value from their digital assets. This includes business analysis, data and process modelling, information security and risk management, technical strategy, and cloud-based SaaS solutions. What drives me is working in small and creative technical teams that pioneer new software solutions to real-world problems. This means combining my scientific and analytical nature with practical problem solving and lateral thinking. If the solution isn\'t obvious, the situation is ill defined, or the technical approach is complex, then all the better!I have extensive and hands-on skills in applied R&D, software development, team leadership and project management in both academic and industrial contexts. Technologies include long term digital preservation, cloud and serverless computing, semantic web, simulation and modelling, knowledge discovery, data mining and machine learning. After 10 years working in the software start-up area, I have experience in funding rounds, investor pitches, due dilligence, technical strategy, market positioning and sales.Innovative technology is fun, but it needs to be relevant to the business and address real user needs. I enjoy understanding customer problems, sharing subject matter expertise, explaining technical solutions, and debunking over-hyped technologies. I\'m a regular speaker at national and international events, I publish the occasional paper, and even do the occassional bit of technology due diligence for VC investors.
