ABOUT MATTHEW VARKONY

I am a PhD Candidate at the University of Miami\'s Rosenstiel School for Marine, Atmospheric and Earth Sciences. My research interests include quantifying different types of climate risk using state of the art econometric and spatial analysis methods. My dissertation research asks how hurricanes impact coastal housing markets, both for homeowners and renters. I predominately use the programming language R to model the relationship between physical processes (such as hurricanes) and social systems (such as housing markets). However, I have experience using both Python and Matlab to clean and analyze data. I will be graduating with my PhD in the spring of 2024. I am looking for opportunities in climate consulting to apply my quantitative skills and expertise in climate risk.
