About Matthew Utesch
I have a wide variety of experience ranging from starting as a loan officer to selling mortgage-backed securities to building an indirect lending program from scratch and now serving as the Director of Underwriting for Canopy Credit Union. I am known for my desire to make processes more efficient and finding solutions that allow my co-workers to deliver the best experience possible for our members.On my own time I have contributed hundreds of hours to writing articles and making videos about retirement, financial education, and other important topics in the realm of finance. My goal is to improve the community I live in and provide tools/knowledge that will allow others improve their well-being and quality of life. I play the long game when it comes to success and refuse to let short-term benefits distract me. I believe that business can make money while also operating in an ethical and moral capacity.

I oversee the implementation and management of underwriting standards for Canopy\'s Indirect and Retail Lending programs. I built our indirect lending program from scratch using CRIF Select and oversaw the last three years of growth making it now our largest retail portfolio.I have been given the opportunity to solidify underwriting practices for our retail portfolio and have a direct report that is largely responsible for day-to-day underwriting tasks ranging from small-dollar loans to home equity products.Over the last year I have taken on the task of working with Fuse LOS to redesign the lending and new accounts process building everything from scratch. I have worked on several open API integrations and am heavily invested in dissecting and simplifying workflows. Recent integrations I have overseen include Plaid, Repay, Accurate Group with many more to come!
