ABOUT MATTHEW SMITH
I have been a practicing geotechnical and environmental engineer with GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc, for over twenty-five years. I am a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Vermont. I am a registered Licensed Site Professional (LSP) in Massachusetts. With a primary focus on assessment, design, remediation, and construction/development, my experience in geotechnical evaluation for foundations and site improvements coupled with environmental assessment and remediation has allowed me to be involved with many challenging projects in New England and across the country. Some examples include-Project director for the largest private development project in Massachusetts history including management of deep foundation installation and remediation of over tons of contaminated soils and asbestos-impacted soils-Development of a PCB impacted site for commercial/retail use-Remediation and reconstruction/development of an early 1900\'s era military firing range-Geotechnical and environmental assessment and design for multiple courthouses in Massachusetts-Geotechnical and environmental assessment and design for multiple higher education colleges and universities in Massachusetts including facilities constructed over historic landfills-Forensic assessment of a slope failure in Massachusetts including support for insurance evaluation and litigation-Remediation/closure of wastewater lagoons impacted by radioactive waste-Multiple landfill expansion and closure designs and construction for landfills in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New York including litigation support on two landfill closure projects-Deep excavation and temporary shoring design and construction for remediation of VOC impacted soils in California-Design and construction of subslab ventilation systems for buildings constructed on landfills and petroleum/VOC impacted sites in Massachusetts, Florida, New Jersey, and New York.
