l currently work as a Controls & Instrumentation Design Engineer for the Reactor Island Duty Control System and Class 3 Safety System for the Rolls-Royce, Small Modular Nuclear Reactor (SMR) project. This system is responsible for delivering the process automation/control systems of the nuclear reactor and associated heat exchangers during normal operation. This includes basic process control (BPCS) functions, condition monitoring systems (pump vibration, valve actuator performance monitoring, loose-parts detection and fatigue/seismic monitoring etc.), and the control rod control system. So far on this project, I have played a leading role in progressing the forementioned systems through the preliminary concept design phase, and I am currently in the process of selecting vendors/integrators to support the development of the C&I supply chain strategy. During my role as a C&I Engineer in the Nuclear Submarine sector, I was the product owner and technical specialist for several Class 1 C&I control units which are responsible for multiple Cat A nuclear safety shutdown functions, process variable/alarm/fault reporting to the operators, and the actuation of several high criticality final control elements (pumps, valves, control rods) on the Dreadnought nuclear-powered, ballistic missile submarine programme (1.5 years)
