About Matthew Schell
I am the managing partner of the National Office within the Audit business unit at Crowe. In this role, I am responsible for leading the professional standards, quality, regulatory, and public policy groups. The National Office leads the development of firm perspectives on professional practice matters and leads implementation of our system of quality management, ensuring compliance with professional standards through consultation, ongoing monitoring, internal and external inspections, and collaboration with oversight bodies. Through technical guidance, publications, webcasts, training sessions, and other forums, the group provides strategic thought leadership on emerging issues, promotes consistent quality across engagements, and strengthens our firm\'s commitment to high audit quality.Professionally, I am the Vice Chair of the Center for Audit Quality’s (CAQ) Professional Practice Executive Committee (PPEC). The PPEC consists of a representative from each CAQ member firm that audits 100 or more issuers registered with the SEC. I have previously been active on various other CAQ task forces, including the task force on Emerging Technology. I am also an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and was previously co-chair of the AICPA’s Digital Assets Working Group. Lastly, I am a Board member for the Maryland Association of CPAs (MACPA) and a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board\'s (FASB) Emerging Issues Task Force (EITF).Prior to joining Crowe, I served as a Professional Accounting Fellow in the SEC’s Office of the Chief Accountant, where I supported the office in the oversight of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and monitoring the activities of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). In addition, I was responsible for consulting with registrants on accounting and reporting matters, and participating in the development of the SEC’s rule proposals. Personally, I am committed to supporting my community through nonprofit board service and volunteerism with numerous organizations supporting financial literacy, youth swimming, childhood cancer initiatives, and my local church youth group.
