ABOUT MATTHEW ROWLAND

I am currently working for Novartis as a Senior Clinical Development Medical Director in Global Drug Development on the TIN816 Sepsis-associated Acute Kidney Injury Programme. Academically, I have led a research team in the Kadoorie Centre for Critical Care Research at the University of Oxford investigating acute brain injury in critically unwell patients - specifically in therapeutic targets for improving neurological outcomes and how imaging strategies can assist this. I completed a DPhil (PhD) in Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Oxford and have published in high impact journals as well as being independently awarded close to £900k of grant income for my research to date. I have been appointed as an Honorary Professor at Queen\'s University, Belfast to work on developing industry/academic collaborations around novel ICU treatments.Clinically, I have been working as a Consultant (Senior Attending) in intensive care medicine in Oxford (UK) for 8 years with a strong focus on the clinical management of patients with brain injury following cardiac arrest, sepsis and trauma. I have been comprehensively trained to CCT level (US equivalent of board certified) in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia - with completion of the Fellowships of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA) and the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FFICM).
