ABOUT MATTHEW ROMAN

I am a Tax Partner at KPMG serving privately held enterprises throughout the HW401 corridor from GTA to Waterloo. My area of expertise includes industries such as real estate development, building/construction, aerospace, manufacturing, automotive, and technology. I am passionate about tax education and serve as the Chair of the CPA Canada Income Tax Education Committee (ITEC) and as a member of the Board of Examiners for the Common Final Exam (CFE) of the CPA profession. I teach on a part-time basis as an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream at the University of Toronto and as a Contract Lecturer at the Toronto Metropolitan University. In 2018, I joined the authorship team of the McGraw Hill textbook, “Canadian Income Taxation: Planning and Decision Making.” Prior to my role on the Board of Examiners, I spent four years as a subject matter expert in developing the tax modules within the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP) and CPA Preparatory Program (CPA PREP). I am a recipient of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada Gold Medal for achieving the highest standing in Ontario on the Common Final Examination (CFE) of the CPA profession. I was recognized as an Emerging Leader by the profession in 2020, and in 2022 I received the University of Waterloo Leader to Watch award. Views expressed are my own.
