ABOUT MATTHEW MATHER

I lead Anderton Structures - a company built on clarity, collaboration and structural steel excellence. Our mission is simple: deliver outstanding steelwork and develop the people behind it.We combine the precision of major-project experience with the agility and partnership of a modern, people-focused business. My journey to this point started in humble fashion…At 16, I wasn’t sure what I wanted, only that I was curious about buildings and technology. That curiosity led me to a Technical Apprenticeship at William Hare, one of the UK’s structural steel leaders. I was lucky enough to be accepted and the next 12 years laid the foundation for everything I am today.I progressed through fabrication & technical apprenticeship, drawing office, engineering, QA and Site Leadership - learning how steel & construction should really be done. I was mentored by some of the best in the industry and their standards shaped my own: precision, accountability and delivery excellence. From there, I took on leadership roles across both large corporates and nimble contractors, balancing strategy with sleeves-up execution. Whether managing multiple projects a week for Raised Floor Solutions or leading on complex builds such as Battersea Power station, Hinkley Point C, Sellafield SRP, The Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, Museum of London and Project Puma my focus has always been the same:Clear structure. Relentless standards. Strong relationships. We believe the best outcomes come from combining engineering & leadership precision with genuine collaboration - building trust, capability and opportunity in every project and every person. What drives me the most is the people & the continuing development to make these outcomes possible.Alongside this, I am developing Steel Futures, an industry initiative focused on attracting, preparing and supporting the next generation entering the structural steel sector. The aim is to strengthen the future workforce by improving early industry awareness, structured preparation and supporting individuals throughout their careers. My career has taken me through every level of the construction pyramid:Apprentice → Engineer → Site Supervisor → Site Manager → Contracts Manager → Project Director → Leader. What ties it all together?→ A passion for structural steel.→ A respect for the people who make it happen.→ And a belief that world-class delivery comes from integrating experience, systems and relationships. We don’t build alone - we develop with people we trust.
