About Matthew Klassa

Two things have always defined me - a curiosity about how the world works and a desire to help those around me. As a kid, I drove my parents crazy by disassembling and reassembling all my toys to see how they worked, and some of my earliest memories include helping my dad run the sound board at our church. These characteristics have stuck with me, driving me to continually learn about the world around us and work to help others. To this end, I have sought out experiences that enable me to grow and to serve. As I considered my choice of college major, my curiosity and service mindset led me to choose the dual major combination of Paper Science & Engineering and Chemical Engineering at NC State University. From this degree, I learned how to improve complex processes that make products people rely on in their everyday lives. Learning and serving has been my focus throughout my professional career. My first opportunities came in 2019 and 2020 respectively with process engineering co-op and internships rotations with Domtar in Plymouth, NC and International Paper in Newport, IN. In these roles, I gained experience in capital projects, deliberate improvement projects, and industrial safety practices. In 2021, I had the opportunity to intern at Merck\'s Durham, NC facility and dip my toes into a new industry and manufacturing process. To close out my undergraduate professional roles, I transitioned to a sales engineering role with Solenis right outside of Savannah, GA in 2022 and learned a great deal about building trust and relationships with peers and clients. With the help of many friends and family, I graduated summa cum laude from my undergraduate studies in May of 2023. I have chosen to begin my career working as a consultant at Sequence, an organization that helps pharmaceutical and life science companies produce life-saving products as safely and quickly as possible. In this role, I will help clients through the commissioning, qualification, and validation lifecycles of their facilities, a role that enables me to continue learning and serving others. In addition to my role at Sequence, I am also pursuing a master’s degree in chemical engineering from NC State to continue growing my understanding of this field. In everything I do, I aim to keep my childhood self alive. I strive to maintain a curious mind and a humble heart, for I have found that these pursuits fulfill me like no others.
