About Matthew K. Kuhl
Matthew K. Kuhl, CMI, MBA is the Senior Manager of the Property and Severance Tax Department for Chevron Corporation in Houston, Texas. Mr. Kuhl’s professional experience has focused on the valuation and tax negotiation of complex, income-producing assets on behalf of the world’s largest integrated energy companies. He takes pride in developing creative, fit-for-purpose tax management strategies and using high-tech solutions. Matt also provides support to Chevron New Energies, Business Development teams, and Corporate Affairs as tax credits and incentives are sought for new investments and new legislative proposals are considered. He currently manages a team of tax professionals that handle all property tax matters for Chevron’s domestic US properties. He has worked a variety of upstream, downstream, midstream, and corporate real estate assets in nearly every state. Prior to assuming a position with his current company, Mr. Kuhl was a Senior Property Tax Representative with Exxon Mobil Corporation in Houston and its subsidiary, XTO Energy in Fort Worth, for five years. He is a Certified Member of the Institute (CMI) of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, where he serves on the faculty for IPT’s Business Personal Property Tax School. Mr. Kuhl serves on the Board of Directors for the Texas Taxpayers and Research Association (TTARA) and is actively involved with CalTax, KernTax, WSPA, the Texas Oil and Gas Association (TXOGA) Ad Valorem Tax Legislative Oil and Gas subcommittee, and NMOGA.Mr. Kuhl earned his MBA in Finance from the University of St. Thomas in Houston and earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Economics degree from the University of Florida. He lives in Houston with his wife Christina and twins Max and Sloan.
