ABOUT MATTHEW G.

Currently on the Finance Graduate Scheme at Tesco, I work in Group Performance Reporting, contributing to both internal and external financial reporting at one of the UK’s largest and most influential retailers. My role involves preparing high-quality reporting materials used by the Group CFO and senior leadership to support results announcements, investor communications, and strategic decision-making.I’m responsible for the production of core reporting packs, including the Group Data Pack, SIP (Supplementary Information Pack), Executive Pack and PLC Board Pack. I focus particularly on customer and market performance, analysing key metrics such as market share, switching trends, NPS (Net Promoter Score), and price index movements across Tesco’s UK, ROI, and Central European operations. I also support the Disclosure Committee process and help review and draft external press releases, ensuring our market messaging is accurate, consistent, and robust. With a background in Economics and Politics from De Montfort University, I bring a strong interest in macroeconomic thinking, financial markets, and productivity as a driver of growth. I’m particularly interested in how economic data can be used to tell compelling stories, inform better decision-making, and influence business outcomes.Beyond my role at Tesco, I enjoy following the intersection of economics, data, and emerging technology. I’m especially intrigued by companies like OpenAI, Shepper, and Prolific, which are reshaping traditional industries through innovation and new thinking.I’m always looking to connect with people across finance, economics, and tech—especially those who are curious, data-driven, and excited by the future.
