ABOUT MATTHEW EVANS
I am a solicitor with over 20 years of experience of advising on all aspects of private wealth disputes, including will disputes, Inheritance Act claims, disputes arising in equity such as proprietary estoppel claims and court of protection disputes. In that time I have represented individuals, major financial institutions and national charities, including the successful parties in several landmark reported cases, such as Re Edwards (2007, undue influence/fraudulent calumny) and Davies v Davies (2016, Proprietary Estoppel). I have also delivered seminars and lectures on all aspects of private wealth disputes.In my day to day role now, supported by an excellent team of fellow partners and legal directors, I have overall strategic responsibility for Hugh James\'s award winning Private Wealth group, which accounts for roughly 20% of the firm’s turnover. The group comprises:Trusts and Estates AdministrationWills and Estate PlanningFamily Private Wealth DisputesCourt of ProtectionOur IFA practice We have teams across our Cardiff, London, Southampton and Manchester offices and act for individuals, businesses, fiduciaries and charities. Solicitors in our teams hold professional accreditations such as STEP and/or ACTAPS and our private client offering is ranked as top tier in both the Legal 500 and Chambers Guide To The Legal Profession, with many of our individual lawyers ranked. Several of our lawyers are also listed in the Spears directory.I also sit on the divisional board of management for Hugh James’s Individual Client Services Division I play a significant role in the firm’s talent management board and am the current Training Principal for the firm. I am passionate about the development and growth of the next generation of lawyers and have recently devised and implemented our Training Contract + initiative, which is designed to provide our trainees with supplemental training over and above the purely legal, to make them fully rounded future leaders in the legal profession.I also have a keen interest in the use of technology to drive efficiency and excellence in the provision of legal services. Recent projects I have led have included the implementation of our new digital first will writing proposition.At Hugh James we pride ourselves on our approachability and building long standing relationships.
