During my 7 years here, working as a special needs teaching assistant, I have gained experience working with pupils (aged 11-19) who have a wide range of needs, learning difficulties and behaviours which challenge, including Autism Fragile X Syndrome and Pathological Demand Avoidance. Every day is different, and I am always learning new approaches to working with special needs pupils. My recent appraisal updated me to a proficient practitioner level. My class duties include one-to-one pupil support, completing behavioural incident forms, marking work and adding to evidence books.During my time working in schools I have continued learning to develop myself professionally. I am Team Teach trained to deescalate and safely restrain and move pupils who are a risk to themselves or others. I have Asthma, Buccal and Epipen training. I recently completed Level 2 in Rebound ( trampoline) Therapy, Levels 1-4 in Makaton, and Essential Autism by the National Autistic Society.I have British Sign Language Levels 1 and 2, and recently started my Level 3. I regularly attend Leeds Deaf Club where I practise. I hope to use this skill in the future to support young people.This year I have being trained to use a hoist to safely transfer pupils from a wheelchair to a stander, and from a wheelchair into the swimming pool. I have also completed Suction training and Deep Pressure training.
