ABOUT MATTHEW BROWN
I am a partner and head of the Global Project, Energy and Infrastructure Finance Group in the London office of Milbank with over 25 years’ experience acting for lenders and sponsors on large scale and first of a kind energy and infrastructure transactions around the globe. I have broad experience across the full spectrum of energy and infrastructure matters, with a significant focus on energy transition (including battery gigafactories, green metals, alternative fuels, hydrogen, green cement and carbon capture) and digital infrastructure (including data centre and GPU development and financing) matters as well as oil and gas (including LNG) and conventional and renewable power matters. I have significant experience in structuring and documenting the commercial arrangements amongst the parties to major project transactions as well as structuring and documenting debt, equity and security arrangements for finance transactions (including financings combining multiple sources of debt). Having led multiple market-leading and first-of-a-kind energy transition, digital infrastructure and other energy and infrastructure projects, I am positioned with the experience and market understanding to advise clients on strategic transactions in these sectors. This experience includes advising Stegra in connection with the development and financing of its multi-billion dollar hydrogen and green steel manufacturing facility in Sweden. My other recent experience, includes advising:• the lenders on the $5 billion financing of the expansion of Northvolt Ett, a battery gigafactory and associated recycling facility; • NScale in connection with a $1.4bn delayed draw term loan backed by GPUs – the funding of which will be used to purchase GPU infrastructure to deliver service under multiple contracts;• the developer in connection with the construction, leasing and operation of a data centre in Europe; and• Breakthrough Energy Catalyst in connection with its acquisition of an interest in the FlagshipONE hydrogen to e-methanol facility. Ranked in Chambers, The Legal 500 UK and IFLR for energy and infrastructure expertise.
