WORK HISTORY
Technical Director @Risktec Solutions
Working in a cross disciplinary consulting team providing safety risk management services for onshore and offshore installations in high hazard industries. I lead and deliver a wide variety of qualitative and quantitative safety studies and reviews relating to process hazard analysis and functional safety, including HAZID, bowtie analysis, HAZOP, SIL, LOPA, QRA, ALARP demonstration, SIMOPs, Safety Critical Elements and Performance Standards, Functional Safety, and COMAH. Additional offshore specific capabilities include Safety Case Development, Material Changes and Thorough Reviews, Combined Operations Risk Management, Ship Collision Analysis and Dropped Objects Risk Assessment. I have an interest in CCS, having carried out CO2 Storage Risk Assessments, including leak path identification, bowtie analysis and semi-quantitative analysis, for European CCS projects such as Porthos (the Port of Rotterdam CCS project), Aramis, HyNet, East Coast Cluster, Greensand, Bifrost, Hewett and Ruby.I also have experience developing software for safety engineering applications, primarily using Typescript, Python and VBA.

ABOUT MATTHEW BAGGALEY
I’m a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Physicist and TÜV Rheinland Authorised Functional Safety Expert engaged in R&D and technical safety risk consultancy for high hazard industries, primarily in the oil & gas and clean energy sectors. My principal areas of expertise include hazard workshop facilitation, quantitative risk analysis, functional safety, and carbon capture and storage (CCS), with a focus on developing software applications to solve engineering problems in these fields. As a consultant, my role is to provide expert help and advice to my clients. This could range from a quick phone call to clarify a regulatory requirement to several months spent facilitating workshops on site. I always try to see the broader picture, so I’m able to provide my customers with a well-rounded and lasting solution to their needs; far beyond a box-ticking temporary fix.I’m a creative problem solver. I derive a great deal of professional fulfillment from tackling those complex problems which might otherwise end up in the “too hard basket”. I enjoy scripting and object-oriented programming to develop numerical models and software tools for data analysis, mostly using Typescript and Python. I\'m a strong advocate of automating time-consuming, monotonous tasks so that I can spend more productive time solving real engineering problems.
