ABOUT MATTHEW ANDERSON
I am an excellent communicator, both written and verbal, and am often described as easy to get along with and kind. I\'m a diligent worker who knows the value of a team and well oiled processes and systems. I also have experience as an entrepreneur, co-founding and running a skateboard brand while in college. I was responsible for all filming and editing of videos and pictures, coordinating product sponsorships, building relationships with brick and mortar skate shop owners, and maintaining all social media presence as well as clothing design. Previously, I worked as a Senior Behavior Technician in the field of Applied Behavioral Analysis. Across seven years and three clinics, I worked with children from the ages of 2 to 17, and primarily with autistic children and specifically those with profound disability. I helped implement person first, client focused behavior plans to address issues such as self injury, aggression, and other harmful and anti-social behaviors. I also helped clients reach academic goals and taught personal life skills to foster as much independence as possible for every client. I deeply enjoyed all my time with past clients and learned so much from them myself. As the brother of an autistic person, I have always appreciated the challenges and struggles of autistic people and disabled autistic people especially. It is a community I will always have ties to.I am also a writer who graduated Clemson University with an English Literature degree. I have written stories or kept journals or taken notes since as young as I can remember. I am a published poet and I also write non-fiction essays on social, cultural, and political issues in America. I approach all those subjects through a lens of justice and concern for human rights and dignity. Some of my writing-and personal-heroes are Albert Camus, James Baldwin, Toni Morrison, George Orwell, bell hooks, Cormac McCarthy, Jorge Luis Borges and Louise Gluck. I believe that a writer is a person who feels compelled to articulate and ask questions, and to question themselves as much as they question their country, their world.
