About Matteo Moretti
Howdy! Matteo is a freelance documentary and commercial cinematographer with a passion for capturing compelling place-based stories that delve into the intersection of people, culture and the environment. Matteo has told stories of mountain communities in Japan, salmon fishers in remote areas of Alaska and founders of Hip Hop in the heart of the Bronx. He is a 2023 newportFILM: Documentary Cinematographer Lab Fellow and his films have been selected to Oscar-qualifying festivals, recognized by Sundance and Adobe and created in collaboration with brands such as The North Face, Orvis and Nike. Matteo’s senior thesis film, “Just Being Here” ran the festival circuit with several selections/awards and his newest short documentary, “Cicada”, details a story about his grandfather’s changed sense of belonging set in a Greek mountain-village. Matteo is currently based in the North East also working as a cinematographer and editor for the production company, Gnarly Bay.
