As the Chair of IEC TC 23, I play both a technical and administrative leadership role. The main responsibilities include:1. Strategic Leadership • Guides the technical direction and priorities of the committee. • Ensures the TC’s work aligns with the broader goals of the IEC and international market needs. • Coordinates with related TCs (e.g, TC 64 for electrical installations, TC 61 for appliances) to avoid duplication and ensure coherence.2. Committee Management • Leads plenary meetings and steering group discussions. • Oversees the work of Working Groups (WGs), Maintenance Teams (MTs), and Project Teams (PTs) under TC 23. • Helps appoint convenors and resolve disputes within the committee.TC23 encompasses the following devices among others:Plugs and socket-outlets • Switches • Boxes, enclosures, and mounting devices • Cable management systems • Circuit-breakers for overcurrent protection • Residual current devices (RCDs) • Industrial socket-outlets • Timers and programmable switches • Smart electrical accessories and HBES (Home and Building Electronic Systems) • Connectors for electric vehicle charging
