ABOUT MATTEO BARBETTI

I am a Data Scientist at the Center of Excellence for AI and GenAI founded by Accenture and Ammagamma in Modena. I recently left academia to embark on this new journey at Accenture, bringing with me a strong background in scientific computing (in particular HPC and Cloud computing) and the development of data-driven or AI-based models (especially relying on generative models). During my PhD, I specialized in Deep Generative Models to parameterize the response of detectors employed in High Energy Physics studies, such as the LHCb experiment at CERN. I am passionate about scientific dissemination, enough to have participated in, supported, or directly organized various outreach events. I love innovation and technology, and I find it particularly stimulating to engage with people who hold perspectives different from my own, not to convince them of my reasoning, but instead to unlock new viewpoints. In July 2024, I defended my PhD in Smart Computing at the University of Firenze, with a thesis focused on the use of Deep Generative Models for the flash-simulation of the LHCb experiment at CERN. From 2017 to 2024, I was a member of the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN), as well as of the LHCb Collaboration at CERN. From 2023 to 2024, I was also a member of ICSC, the newly established Italian National Research Center in HPC, Big Data, and Quantum Computing. From 2017 to 2021, I was a member of the Italian Association of Physics Students (AISF), contributing to the coordination and organization of the association as a member of the Executive Committee during the 2019–2021 term.
