ABOUT MATT B.
As SVP of Global Content, Media Distribution, and Business Operations for the National Basketball Association, I oversee the NBA’s international content and media distribution business spanning over 200 countries and 50 languages and manage global content distribution teams, scale and maximize operational efficiency, and exceed revenue targets.Three of my greatest accomplishments at the NBA include:• Building an international media business from the ground up to contribute to a global media business that generates over $3 billion in annual revenue.• Recruiting and developing culturally diverse teams who delivered stellar results in 2020, despite the pandemic-shortened season.• Executing marketing strategies for digital/OTT, traditional TV, direct-to-consumer, and digital products that have increased viewership and engagement for the NBA in markets around the world.Developing new partnerships and leading complex negotiations are two of my greatest strengths. I’ve forged company-first partnerships with both media and technology companies that have propelled the growth of the NBA worldwide. • International sales made up 30 percent of the NBA’s overall merchandise business for the 2019-20 season. Two-thirds of NBA.com’s traffic during the regular season came from outside America. China, the largest international market, accounts for 20% of the league’s international traffic to NBA.com.• We secured comprehensive media partnerships in 2020 in markets such as Africa, China, and Spain and completed distribution pacts with major global media companies, including ESPN, Globo, and DirecTV.• In 2020, we signed a multi-year deal to add NBA League Pass subscriptions to Toshiba and Hisense smart TVs, providing direct-to-consumer streaming that reaches over 20 million smart-tv users globally.• We’re opening new markets. The NBA launched a YouTube channel dedicated to fans in sub-Saharan Africa. The channel streams live games, daily highlights, and special coverage of native African players.• We’re engaging younger audiences by tapping into the video gaming market with a robust eSports platform, the NBA’s 2K League.https://careers.nba.com/2015/08/17/matt-brabants/
