Lead the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of systems test and evaluation training across ETPS long and short courses, spanning both crewed and uncrewed aviation. Act as the focal point for systems syllabus standardisation, ensuring alignment with CAA, MAA, EASA and MOD DSAT frameworks.Specialist in mission systems, automation, and human–machine interface (HMI), with a focus on preparing the next generation of test pilots and flight test engineers to evaluate software-defined aircraft, RPAS, and advanced automation. Integrate emerging technologies—including AI-enabled systems and novel propulsion—into practical, operationally grounded training.Deliver instruction, mentor multinational military and civilian students, and lead Internal and External Validation (Inval/Exval) activity to drive measurable improvements in learning outcomes. Support ETPS future capability development and represent the School with regulators, defence customers, and industry partners.

ABOUT MATT WARD
I’m a test pilot and systems thinker with 25+ years at the frontiers of aviation, from military helicopters to unmanned eVTOL platforms. I led certification and concept development for a 6,500 kg electric cargo aircraft at Skybridge, shaping strategy across flight control, energy systems, avionics, and operator interfaces. I worked hand-in-hand with regulators (CAA/FAA) to define paths to compliance, translating first-principles engineering into real-world flight test and regulatory decisions.I have always worked in high-performing teams. I believe in clear direction, decisive leadership, and technical credibility and I never ask for more than I give. My instincts are shaped by operational flying, but I validate everything through disciplined test and data. I’ve helped transform startups from chaos to capability, and I stay grounded in the mission: safe, certifiable, high-performance systems.I love working across boundaries; pilots and engineers, startups and regulators, ideas and outcomes. If it flies, and especially if it’s hard to get approved, I can help.Doing my bit to help humans and machines see eye-to-byte, I thrive on human-machine interaction problems that new technologies bring.
