As Executive Director of the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors (ASTDD), a national nonprofit representing directors and staff of state and territorial public health agency programs for oral health, I lead efforts to strengthen the capacity, effectiveness, and sustainability of state and territorial oral health programs (S/TOHPs). Organized in 1948, ASTDD is one of 20 affiliates of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO). ASTDD formulates and promotes national dental public health policy; assists S/TOHPs in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs that prevent oral diseases and reduce inequities; builds awareness and advances the skills of dental public health professionals; and provides technical assistance, education, and policy guidance to states, territories, and partners.Guided by ASTDD’s mission, vision, and values, I provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure a strong and effective governmental oral health presence in every state and territory. Our values: collaboration, prevention, diversity, competency, science-based learning, integrity, and accountability, drive how we lead, partner, and serve.In collaboration with the Board of Directors, staff, consultants, and national partners, I oversee initiatives that support the 10 Essential Public Health Services to Promote Oral Health, grounding ASTDD’s work in assessing population needs, addressing oral health problems, communicating effectively, mobilizing partners, shaping and implementing policy, strengthening access and workforce capacity, and advancing a resilient, equitable, continually improving oral health infrastructure.I am honored to lead ASTDD in advancing oral health through strong leadership, shared purpose, and a culture rooted in trust and collaboration. My work is guided by commitment, culture, capability, communication, and civility, principles that shape how I cultivate partnerships to achieve lasting, meaningful impact.
