About Matt Wrede
I am a third-year student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, majoring in Economics with a double minor in Entrepreneurship and History. As a member of the UNC Men’s Lacrosse team, I have earned three ACC Honor Roll distinctions. Last summer, I took a leap of faith and drove to Montana with no job or plan, eventually landing in Big Sky, where I worked as a construction landscaper on high-end resort properties such as Moonlight Basin, Yellowstone Club, and Spanish Peaks. Within a week, my boss had to leave town for an emergency, and my coworker quit—leaving me to manage on-site operations with no prior experience. This unexpected challenge ignited my passion for real estate and hospitality, as I saw firsthand the intricacies of luxury property development and management. Eager to gain more hands-on experience, I joined Willow Street Partners as a Winter Intern, where I was exposed to various aspects of real estate development, management, acquisitions, and lending. This experience solidified my interest in the intersection of real estate and hospitality. This summer, I will be joining Highgate’s Acquisitions team in New York City, where I look forward to further developing my knowledge in the hotel and hospitality industry, along with hospitality-adjacent businesses.
