About Matt Stankus

I am a pre-med student and a U.S. Army veteran driven to work in underserved communities. Serving in conflict zones as a service member and as a civilian volunteer has taught me how instability, poverty, and disrupted infrastructure affect people’s access to healthcare. Those experiences inspired me to continue serving others by pursuing a career in medicine, with a strong sense of duty to underserved communities. Through Global Care Force in Ukraine, I’ve supported physicians caring for communities affected by war. At home, I have extensively volunteered at homeless shelters, working with individuals facing housing insecurity and learning how social determinants shape health. My background in enzyme research, combined with my experience working in high-pressure, resource-limited settings, has strengthened my resilience, teamwork, adaptability, and communication skills, qualities I will carry into my future career as a physician.
