About Matt Piccone

My career mission is to ensure that places are healthy, pleasant, and resilient for life. I study the experience, well-being, and performance of humans in built and natural environments and how to encourage stewardship of resources and place. I\'m learning how to achieve these goals at multiple scales - from personal workspaces to entire cities - through project experience, colleagues, research, field experts, and especially the natural world. I aim to become an ambassador for these ideas in order to guide the built environment beyond sustainability into regenerative outcomes. I strive to be a silo-breaker and translate ideas across fields. I have the ability to coordinate and align ideas across several disciplines, project types, and scales, including academic research and philosophies, the natural sciences, architecture, planning, landscape architecture, engineering, and construction. Over my career, I’ve developed in several roles: I am a Designer and Analyst - I can give broad conceptual direction or dive deep into implementation and coordinate systems as a part of design teams and committees. I review design strategies, and develop and hone presentations to ensure they meet their intentions and project goals.I am a Learner, Educator, and Advocate - I help others and myself learn about human and ecological resilience. I discover and translate research and incorporate it into sustainable cultures and design practices. I create frameworks for knowledge sharing, implementation, and marketing through writing, presentations, and guidelines.I am a Facilitator and Coordinator - I host discussion sessions, surveys, and forums. I capture learnings from a diverse collection of experiences and apply them to other work. I use this knowledge to generate goals, design ideas, frameworks, and to develop concepts and a common language around researched topics. I manage staff to produce resources for others. We collect and summarize knowledge, share paths forward, and scale up.
