About Matt Pappas

Started out my career with an undergraduate degree in business finance. Moved where Kiewit asked me to move(to the most challenging and rewarding opportunities) for over 10 years and rose quickly from entry level to business director. My career goals were always set on being a CFO and so I switched companies because Kiewit had a really good and young CFO. As the CFO of Harder Mechanical, I was able to leverage my financial skillset and also my construction data skillset. I really enjoyed the accounting, treasury, and banking portions of the job. However what made me unique and successful, as a CFO, is being able to automate processes with data. I knew it and so did my former employer, Kiewit.Kiewit is so much larger than Harder Mechanical and as a result they have a lot more data and a mixture of engineering, procurement, and construction data. This mixture is unlike any other company and the executives at Kiewit get how data will change this industry. I felt without the scale, I would never be able to build the industry changing solutions I wanted to build. Both companies treated me well but I am driven by progress and achievement. So, I switched back to Kiewit.Being back at Kiewit as the CDO (Chief Data Officer) and seeing Kiewit differently has been really healthy. I have responsibilities for data analytics, big data engineering, data governance, data stewards/hubs, and custom web application development. I lean towards a fail-fast environment and set a culture focused on employee development. Since my return in 2020, we have built really big solutions and data tools that differentiate Kiewit in the industry. My goal is to make and sustain Kiewit as the premier data driven company in construction!
