Commissioned by Goldenvoice/AEG to design and direct bespoke, recurring stage installations for Splash House at The Saguaro, an iconic boutique event known for its vibrant, mid-century setting. As the Principal Designer, I led a multifaceted creative process in collaboration with the Coachella Art Department, transforming a simple poolside stage into an architectural art installation that balanced artistic innovation with technical precision.Architectural Vision: Conceptualized a striking, two-story scaffolding structure inspired by Palm Springs’ experimental architecture.Scenic Artistry: Designed a series of concentric, geometric portals bearing Saguaro\'s vibrant branded color, embedded at fine tolerances within in custom-fabricated Layher scaffolding system powder-coated in brilliant white. Developed a proprietary pigmented sheer mesh membrane cladding that caught light beautifully, creating an immersive and sculptural environment.Lighting Design without Screens: Integrated concealed lighting coves using Martin Sceptron units, delivering dynamic, rhythm-based lighting without reliance on video content, transforming light itself into a narrative medium.Site-Specific Problem-Solving: Engineered a modular design that adapted to the Saguaro’s access limitations (standard doorway clearance), employing a motorized pulley system for precise overhead installation.Creative Collaboration: Partnered with the Coachella Art Department, leading a design process grounded in clarity, communication, and trust, with my drawing sets becoming a key reference for production teams.Visual Storytelling: Elevated the brand identity of Splash House with a design that balanced desert whimsy and refined architectural language, resonating with the event’s vibrant, sun-drenched aesthetic.Complete Project Leadership: Directed the creative process from initial concept through fabrication, installation, and final lighting programming, ensuring cohesive and impactful results.
