About Matt Grant

I\'m an engineer and product lead with 10+ years of experience in the research and development novel optical gyroscopes and high-precision IMUs. My career has focused on translating advanced photonics research into real-world systems for autonomous navigation. As a lead photonic integrated circuit (PIC) architect at ANELLO, I helped design and bring to market the world’s first silicon photonics-based optical gyroscope (SiPhOG). This technology now powers ANELLO’s inertial navigation systems, which are in full production and shipping to customers across multiple sectors.Beyond the PIC, I played a hands-on role in building out the SiPhOG product—developing its electronics, calibration, and manufacturing line. I now serve as the product lead for the ANELLO X3: an IMU with a 3-axis silicon photonics gyroscope at tactical grade, designed for high-volume production.I earned my PhD in Physics at Stanford in Professor Michel Digonnet’s group, where I worked on chip-scale optical gyroscopes using ultra-low-loss silicon nitride waveguides. I also hold a Master’s in Electrical Engineering from Stanford and a Bachelor\'s in Engineering Physics from the University of British Columbia. My passion lies in simplifying complex physical systems (often in photonics) and turning them into practical, real-world devices. I’m especially interested in optical sensing, integrated photonics, and inertial navigation systems.
