ABOUT MATT GARDNER

Current Role:In early 2024, I took on the role of Global Services Director: Environmental Services for Arcadis. The role is focused on further developing global interoperability and improving knowledge sharing between regions with key responsibilities being to improve the approach, efficiency, consistency, and quality of the Environmental Services we deliver to our clients, across all geographies and across all asset classes. This will be delivered through driving the standardization and automation of our Environmental Services processes, optimizing the deployment of our GEC teams and ensuring that we embed sustainability into our delivery.Career Background:I have over 25 years of experience in the environmental services industry, working with both public and private sector clients on a wide range of projects spanning industrial remediation, site assessment and brownfield regeneration.Having graduated with an MSc Hydrogeology in 1998, I spent 6 months as a Research Associate at University of East Anglia (UEA) Norwich before starting my consultancy career at Arcadis Geraghty & Miller International in working on gas station and automotive projects for over 5 years. A short career/travelling break led to migration to Manchester and 8 years at Capita primarily working within the property development sector, and then 2 years with WSP/Parsons Brinckerhoff as the Esso Retail Divestment lead before re-joining Arcadis in 2015.From the beginning of 2016, I took on the role as Business Director for the UK’s Site Evaluation & Restoration (SER) business, growing it from around 70 to almost 300 colleagues. Market diversification alongside a maintained focus on our existing industrial client heritage has produced an agile, diverse, and award-winning business capable of solving all of our client’s “geo” environmental challenges. Our SER teams boast a range of industry leading experts, a substantial portfolio of award winning projects, in-house high-resolution investigation kit and a proven track record in developing bespoke/innovative methods of site investigation, risk assessment, remediation and demolition. Our clients span both public and private sectors; from industrial land-holders to financial institutions, including government organisations, local government authorities, developers, housebuilders, educational establishments, health trusts, research bodies and contractors. We deliver highly valued and multi-faceted perspectives to provide a more holistic decision-making process.
