ABOUT MATT DORRAM
CW5 (Retired) Matt Dorram is a member of the Military Sales & Strategy (MSS) division at Bell. He brings a wealth of experience having spent his entire adult life in military and civilian aviation communities. At the age of 17, Matt’s military career began as an AH-1 Cobra armament technician in the Colorado Army National Guard. His aspirations to become an aviator were realized in 1990 when he was selected to attend Warrant Officer Initial Entry Rotary Wing (IERW) pilot training at Fort Rucker, Alabama. He was recognized as the Distinguished Honor Graduate of his class and, in addition to academic and flight honors, was voted by his flight school peers as the recipient of the class Leadership Award. In 1996, Matt was hired as an Instructor Pilot at the High Altitude Training Site (HATS) in Eagle, Colorado. As part of the early HATS cadre, he developed and implemented practices, procedures, and techniques used to train U.S. Army pilots and foreign military pilots in the rugged and treacherous Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Many of these training methods helped propel the iconic military schoolhouse into its current world-renowned status. Known today as HAATS, the assignment afforded Matt a unique experience to develop programs, train a wide variety of military pilots, and perform countless life saving Search and Rescue (SAR) flight missions.Matt’s 29 year / flight hour military career included two combat deployments, additional assignments as fixed wing pilot, Operations Officer, State Standardization Instructor Pilot, ratings in six different Army airframes, and culminated as the Command Chief Warrant Officer (CCWO) of Colorado. After his military retirement in 2016, Matt went to work as the Senior Program Manager of a Defense Contractor company. Managing a $238M IDIQ Contract with Nonstandard Rotary Wing Aircraft (NSRWA), he developed and executed FMS training programs for partner nation militaries. The itch to return to the cockpit in 2018 found him piloting Boeing 747s around the world, and later instructing corporate pilots in International Flight Procedures.Matt earned a Master’s Degree in Organizational Performance from Colorado State University in 2009, and a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Science from Metropolitan State University in 1994. Free time finds Matt at his cabin in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of Colorado. He’s an avid outdoorsman and has completed an archery hunting achievement known as the Colorado Big 9, taking all 9 native big game species with bow and arrow.
