ABOUT MATT COLACIELLO

As a queer adolescent confronting homophobia, becoming my own mental health advocate was imperative to my survival. From an early age, I began to engage not only the content of my own and others’ trauma and healing, but also the nature of that healing, its systemic context, and the meaning of life itself. There is nothing more fulfilling to me than these interwoven pursuits, and mental health is the profession where they meet on a daily basis in deep, meaningful, and necessary practice. In short: I love what I do. The unconventional career path I took to get here led me to spend a decade abroad in Mali, India, and Indonesia before coming back to the U.S. to work as a communications professional. I’ve studied extensively with indigenous elders and Buddhist teachers, worked for many years with human rights and environmental justice organizations, led field education courses for American students, produced an award-winning national TV show, and learned to make friends in several languages. In each of these chapters of my life, I have stayed true to my conviction that creating positive change takes working on both the systemic and individual human levels. The human level, however, is where I find myself most fulfilled—and most effective. That’s how I came to holistic coaching.(And what led me to work towards becoming a licensed clinical mental health counselor, which I’m currently in grad school for… class of ’25!) My work with coaching clients is based on my belief that, on the deepest level, each of us knows what is right for us and how to heal. As a coach, I help clients sort through what’s getting in the way of that process. To do so, I incorporate 4 fundamental pillars: Mindfulness, Internal Family Systems (I trained with the legendary Derek Scott), nature immersion, and a somatic approach to collective healing (informed by the Somatic Abolitionism of Resmaa Menakem). I also regularly lead contemplative forest walks and run several support groups, including an embodied anti-racist group for white people, and an IFS-informed group for queer men. If your heart says “yes” to any of this, I invite you to reach out. Whether you’re interested in working with me as a client or a collaborator, I’m here to build community and work towards liberation and awakening for all.
