My current role as Managing Director has provided me with experience to deliver support to emerging contemporary artists, international practitioners, organisations and institutions in diverse and multiple settings. My responsibilities include diverse programming and facilitation of events and talks, fundraising, artists spending / expenses, transport of works, managing set-up and installation, audience development, and effective online marketing strategies. More recently I have worked on projects with Robert Wilson, Gillian Wearing and Simon Starling as well as securing charitable status for BACKLIT to increase sustainability.

ABOUT MATT CHESNEY
I am an artist / curator based in Nottingham. Since July 2008 I have been directing BACKLIT gallery and director/ writer / creator for Charity Shop Sue, an online / TV comedy project. Backlit is an independent art gallery located in the heart of Nottingham, UK. As one of the largest studio provisions on the UK it offers affordable studio spaces for contemporary artists; supporting early career graduates, emerging artists and international touring practitioners. Backlit provides a dynamic public programme of national and international artists including original artist commissions, workshops, screenings and live debates. It has a strong working relationship with regional and national organisations and universities. It is committed to supporting community engaged projects and provides unique critical sessions for artists working in the city.As a Fine Art practitioner my work is based around performance, video and sculpture with fluid configurations of people and technologies. I have worked internationally on projects and residencies in Japan, Germany, and UK.
