I served on the board of directors for this grassroots foundation for several years.Among many interests and hobbies, I also sing opera, write music and poetry, play hockey, run and surf with my daughter, and read an inordinate amount of neuroscience and psychology.SUCCESS STORIESStarting from a small team with a minimal prototype application and functional control system firmware, I worked with systems engineering, assay development, and product management to build an embedded software team that produced high-quality, highly usable diagnostic platform software in a relatively short period of time. We were one of only two companies (among many submissions) to receive emergency use authorization for our diagnostic system without having a prior FDA-approved platform on the market.An aerospace client was far behind schedule on a complex program involving image processing and third-party sensors and control systems. As I uncovered, the real bottleneck was a lack of software design and a breakdown in communication. With the full scope understood and agreed on, I quickly cleaned up the existing code and drivers, turned out modules to control the various parts, and validated the image processing algorithm in a testbench. Within two months (a fraction of the original schedule), we achieved the performance needed to keep the program alive and extended our engagement with this client.
