Experience

  1. Senior Child Protection Adviser

    United Nations

    Nov 2009 — Present

My responsibilities encompass the coordination of the Child Protection Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism (MRM) and the Children and Armed Conflict (CAAC) mandate in country-specific contexts listed on the United Nations Security Council agenda. I oversee the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions and the recommendations of the UN Security Council Working Group on CAAC within the assigned country.I apply international legal frameworks, transitional justice, and accountability mechanisms to safeguard children affected by armed conflict. This includes engaging with conflict parties to prevent, address, and respond to grave violations against children; advocating for the release of children associated with armed forces and armed groups; and promoting the signing and implementation of action plans by armed group commanders to ensure child protection. I prioritize child protection considerations in peace and security negotiations. In collaboration with UNICEF, the UN Country Team, the Country Task Force on the MRM, the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict (SRSG CAAC), and international donors, I facilitate program funding, service delivery, transit care, family tracing, and reintegration initiatives for children separated from armed groups.I lead and manage a team of 30 child protection officers, develop the section’s work plan, and participate in budget and financial planning. As the principal adviser on child protection within my organization, I coordinate with security forces, peacekeepers, and UN police to ensure the issuance of child protection directives and the reporting of grave violations to civilian officers.I produce high-quality MRM reports for submission to the UN Security Council and the Office of the SRSG CAAC. My work is life-saving, contributing to the separation and reintegration of approximately children from armed groups annually. I am deeply passionate about my mission.
