Partner at b2venture | Backing outlier founders obsessively building platforms, marketplaces, and network-effects-driven companiesAt b2venture, I focus on backing exceptional founders at the pre-seed and seed stage - especially those building platforms, marketplaces, and network-effects-driven models. What I’m looking for?Outlier outcomes start with outlier founders. Founders with intense drive and clarity of purpose. People who are completely obsessed with the problem they’re solving - not just smart or ambitious, but propelled by a deep internal force - not to say \"unhinged\". That kind of obsession can be messy. It’s rarely easy. But it’s what builds outliers. And in venture, that’s the game we’re playing. If that resonates with you, I’d love to connect.

ABOUT MATHIAS O.

I’m a Partner at b2venture, where I invest in founders building marketplaces, platforms, and software businesses - especially those with the potential to unlock powerful network effects, a moat that is becoming even more important in the age of AI. With over 15 years of experience in European and transatlantic tech venture capital, I’ve developed a deep conviction: truly exceptional startups are built by truly exceptional founders - people with intense drive and clarity of purpose who are completely obsessed with the problem they’re solving. Not just smart or ambitious, but possessed by a deep internal fire. That kind of obsession can be messy. It’s rarely easy. But it’s what builds outliers. And in venture, that’s the game we’re playing. Before joining b2venture, I spent 7+ years at Speedinvest, where I launched and led the firm’s Marketplaces & Consumer practice. As General Partner, I raised and deployed over €100M across two dedicated vertical funds and backed more than 70 early-stage companies, including TIER Mobility (now Dott), CoachHub, Kittl, and Planetly (OneTrust). I also served on the firm’s global Investment Committee and Management Team, established its Berlin office, and founded The Marketplace Conference, Europe’s leading event for marketplace founders and funders.Previously, I was General Manager Germany at Uniplaces and Principal at Point Nine Capital, where I helped shape the firm’s marketplace investment strategy. There, I was involved with the fund\'s investments in Revolut, Docplanner, Brainly, Xeneta, Goodays, and StuDocu amongst others.I began my career in M&A and corporate development at ricardo Group, then part of Naspers, and entered VC as an Investment Manager at Mountain Partners, where I led early investments in Lieferando (now JustEatTakeAway) and reBuy.I like to partner with the most determined and mission-driven entrepreneurs so if you’re building something ambitious in Europe - especially in the platform or marketplace space - I’d love to hear from you. I only accept LinkedIn requests from individuals I’ve interacted with previously, online or offline.
