ABOUT MATHEW NINAN
General Thoracic Surgeon, specializing in lung and esophageal robotic surgery. After completing his general surgery training in London, U.K, he completed the three year cardiothoracic surgery fellowship of the University of Pittsburgh, with special training in minimally invasive thoracic surgery. He was then appointed as Assistant Professor of Thoracic Surgery and Director of Lung Transplant at Vanderbilt University from 20••••08, where he also completed a two year Masters in Clinical Investigation. In 2009, he was appointed as Associate Professor and Chief of Surgical Oncology at the University of Tennessee. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Fellow of the European College of Thoracic Surgery, Fellow Intercollegiate Board in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Royal College of Surgeons, Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. His present role is Director of Thoracic Surgery at HCA Florida Healthcare West Division overseeing Thoracic Surgery development over 15 hospitals. He has performed over thoracic surgical procedures in his career, and now directs a busy program of robotic thoracic surgery of lung and esophagus and robotic bronchoscopy. The lung surgery program is STS 3-star rated. He is the director of one of the largest Lung Nodule Programs in Florida, that connects 10 hospitals through machine learning software and artificial intelligence pickups of early lung cancer. He also moderates a Thoracic Tumor Board, that connects physicians and nurses from 7 counties in West Florida. His clinical research interests are in the field of Surgical Innovation - integrating surgical robotic and robotic bronchoscopy platforms, and use of extended reality and artificial intelligence applications in thoracic surgery. He has also trained many thoracic surgeons in robotic surgery.
