SKILLS
ABOUT MATTHEW PRITCHARD
I help organisations reflect, adapt and learn, especially in complex, often messy real-world environments. I\'m a Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning specialist with 30 years’ experience across sectors including education, livelihoods, governance, social protection, agriculture and capacity development. My work focuses on generating insight: not just evidence for its own sake, but understanding that informs better decisions. I’ve led large-scale, theory-based evaluations (including of the FCDO-funded PLANE education programme in Nigeria), advised on institutional change, and helped reshape organisational M&E systems. As an M&E Technical Director at Ecorys, I contribute to technical leadership, project delivery, and capacity development, from qualitative research design to system-level thinking. Increasingly, I’m exploring how AI tools can be responsibly and meaningfully integrated into evaluation and organisational learning processes, including for analysis, evidence synthesis and internal knowledge capture. This is an area I’m actively developing. At the heart of it all: I try to ask the right questions. Not just “What happened?”, but “So what?”, “Why?”, and “How do we make it better?”I write here occasionally on evaluation, learning, development sector challenges, and the emerging role of AI in shaping how we work. This is a personal account; views are my own.
